Home Cooking Warm Your Soul
December 01 2007Round out your list with something delicious for friends and family and something sweet for those in need - Dancing Deer Baking Co.‘s Sweet Home Project. This collection from a Boston bakery includes cookies (our favorite were the sweet-and-sour Sugar Cane Lime) and cakes (we loved the intensely spiced Deep Dark Gingerbread) made from all-natural ingredients. The company donates 35% of the proceeds to One Family, Inc., an organization dedicated to helping homeless families in Massachusetts get on their feet. If you live in the area, you can even go a step further and participate in Dancing Deer’s volunteer program to build gingerbread houses with moms and kids at local family shelters.

Deer Me
November 01 2007Deer Me: Has holiday baking got you tethered to the stove instead of joining in the reindeer games? Try ordering some holiday treats from Dancing Deer Baking Co. instead. This Boston bakery whips up natural, delectable goodies and will ship them right to your door in packaging so attractive you won’t even bother wrapping them. Known for their artisan baking techniques and innovative flavor combinations, Dancing Deer products are also available at Williams-Sonoma and Whole Foods Market. But if you’d rather stay in and snuggle, shop online at dancingdeer.com and have your dessert delivered to you. (Note: they won’t be delivered by actual dancing deer.) Try the Reindeer Noses, golden, sophisticated, slightly nutty gingerbread medallions. One in the bag is, of course, Rudolph-red.

Female Ownership Matters
October 15 2007Patricia Karter, Dancing Deer Bakery CEO, thinks a better gender balance in the business world could improve society as a whole. Dancing Deer wants to advance the role of women in the male-dominated business world by being not just women-run but majority women-owned. It is my belief that more women controlling assets in the private sector will yield a net gain in performance and ultimately a better society for all. This is not a zero sum game. Ownership chooses management and therefore sets the agenda. If you believe that diversity leads to better decision-making, then it is logical to pursue it at the ownership level. So that’s what I’m trying to do with our next fund-raise.
