House the Homeless
October 01 2007House the Homeless: Helping impoverished women is as easy as pie – or in this, case, cake. Thirty-five percent of sales from . . . Sweet Home baked goods . . . helps Massachusetts women find jobs and escape homelessness. We especially love the Sweet Home Pick, which includes fresh-baked molasses clove cookies, a dark chocolate house-shaped cookie, and chocolate gingerbread cake. Sweet charity!

July 01 2007Editor’s Pick:
You could send an ugly cake, but why? Dancing Deer offers confections that thrill the eye and the palette, like their Chocolate Espresso Happy Birthday Cake - a rich, dark chocolate cake drizzled with white Belgian chocolate, all gussied up in a natural abaca fabric and tied with a pretty bow, complete with candles, plates, and napkins. And the founder is as sweet has her creations, donating 35% of sales of her “Sweet Home” products to help get homeless families permanently out of poverty.

Trish Karter Provides Definition of Bench Development
April 13 2007
Bench development is you know, we’ll come up with recipe concepts and you have to try them out and work with the materials and it’s an iterative process and you’re doing it in small batches and then when you get a product developed to a certain level, then you start going into production. So now you’re making 200 pounds of it at a crack to try it out. So you have to do a good job at the bench development level so that you don’t waste a lot of energy when you start putting things into production and it’s also a place where you have a lot of opportunity to tweak recipes and use knowledge.
