The Gift of Snacktime - Part 2
Posted by Julie on 12/22 | Permalink | Email this entry |
You never outgrow snack time. And at Dancing Deer, we’re surrounded by the yummy aromas of brownies, cakes, cookies baking - it’s tempting to spend all our time on snack time. What memories does snack time bring to life for you?
We ask our Deers on Twitter to share a few memories. Here’s what they wrote.
@talkingwithtami: At least once a week, I meet with my son for lunch at his school. This past monday was his birthday, I went to school and we had lunch with him and some snacks. The kids were pointing saying yes that’s his mom she is on tv. That was a great memory of snacktime with my son plus the kids laughed and so did he!
@tubgoddess: snacktime - ants on a log (celery w/ peanut butter and raisins) or graham crackers with peanut butter! apples and peanut butter…
This holiday there’s plenty of time for snack time. May we recommend that one of your snacks include a Two-Tier Holiday Cookie Tower.
These bite size shortbread cookies are in 8 yummy flavors and shapes.
Happy Holidays, from Dancing Deer Baking Company!
Deer in the Spotlight - Graham Hill

Graham Hill (@ghill on Twitter) is the founder of Tree Hugger . Graham is a serial entrepreneur. Check out the video below, where Graham tells musician Ben Harper that his focus is on pushing sustainability from the back burner to the forefront of focus within the environmental conversation. Then, we ask Graham a few questions of our own!

DD: Dancing Deer blog readers are a community of doers. They are a group of people who believe that they can truly make a difference in the lives of others in their community - but sometimes it takes a long time to affect lasting change. What do you do to keep motivated in those times when progress seems slow?
Graham: In terms of Tree Hugger and Planet Green, I think we are lucky in terms of motivation. With over 4M unique visitors a month, there is enough stuff going on that we get fed by the good stories we hear of individuals we’ve inspired, small businesses we’ve helped and big companies that seem to care what we think. It’s definitely a challenge regardless…the more you read, the more depressing the situation seems to be. We are up against a problem of planetary scale that goes against our very nature. And human behavior is very difficult to change.
Lots of hands make light work though!
DD: What’s a quick, pro- natural environment tip that you could offer our readers?
Graham: The climate crisis is largely an energy problem. So if you want to help, focus on reducing your energy use and using renewables. A very easy, not too expensive and hi impact move is to buy green power for your home and ideally your business. You can get it in almost every state and if not, renewable energy credits are available. And it’ll take you 20 minutes. Making this move at home will cut 1-12 tons per year depending on the state you live in.

Deer in the Spotlight - Jeff Brown
Posted by Julie on 12/14 | Permalink | Email this entry |
Shalini Bahl nominated Jeff Brown this week as the “Deer in the Spotlight.” It takes a lot to become “Deer in the Spotlight.” it takes qualities like self-less actions, standing up for what you believe in and practicing many of the principles we have defined as core values.
Jeff Brown is our “Deer in the Spotlight” because he is living out his convictions. Jeff started Ride Buzz, a non-profit that seeks to “help people share rides, reduce their carbon footprint, save money and get around in socially friendly ways.”
Shalini shares that Jeff uses innovations in social networking and internet-based technology to connect people. Like our Deers, Jeff saw an issue that he felt passionate about, and did something about it. His efforts have helped to provide alternative transportation solutions that help people and the environment.
Jeff has done some great footwork for the rest of us to follow behind. At a minimum, can each of us choose a few days a year when we use public transit or services like Ride Buzz?
What if we committed to riding a bicycle to work all summer?
Do you have someone in your life that should be our “Deer in the Spotlight” next week?
Please submit your suggestions here!
Both the “Deer of the Spotlight” recipient and the person who nominated them will receive a Dancing Deer treat!

The Gift of Cookies: Embrace Your Inner Cookie Monster

The Cookie Monster is onto something. He knows what I’m sure you’ve discovered by now- the amazing power of cookies.
The Cookie Monster made his debut in an IBM training video in 1967 and quickly grew to fame through his repetitious use of “Om Nom nom nom.”
Cookies everywhere shuddered at the thought of his famous exclamation: “Me want cookie!”
At Dancing Deer, we understand what motivated the Cookie Monster. Our Holiday Chewy Cookie Sampler has long been a source of temptation for the Cookie Monster, and many others. Year after year, we caused, and successfully satisfied, cooking craving.
We want to hear from our favorite cookie bloggers. How did the cookie monster impact your blog and / or your love for cookies?
Share you story in a blog post or a comment below. We’ll add the hyperlink to this post – and we’ll send it directly to the cookie monster.
