Trish’s cycling companion, Janet, thought of this while on the long trek from Athens to Augusta: “I’ve been thinking about cycling metaphors. It’s easy to get back on your bike if you already know how to ride.”

In speaking about homelessness, some people fall of their bikes because they were never taught how to ride in the first place. Some people you meet at the shelters you find that they lack the basics and end up falling off the cliff at sometime. Whether the basics are financial management, staying away from abusive situations or how to hang on to a job. The workers at these shelters are the biking instructors who teach them how to get moving. It struck me to see how critical their work is.

Trish,

I cannot believe this morning’s ride! I am so thankful God put it on my heart last night to ride with you!  Of all the things I could have done today, riding and supporting you and the homeless was it!  I am grateful I had the opportunity to lead you out of Columbia and on the road to Charlotte.  I hold to my prayer - that God will keep you safe, that everyone on your team will be encouraged each day, that people will learn the tragedy in our cities;  each night while I sleep on a great bed, with linen and pillows, people sleep in the elements without food, showers, medicine, and other basics.  God speed Trish!  As I see it, you are Esther for the homeless!  To leave all you have, humble yourself and get on a bicycle is incredible!!!  I am glad I was the semi with the Fiat behind me.
