Judge C. Yvonne Holt-Stone, Judge Halle Weinstein, Me, First Lady (and Judge) Katie O'Malley

This morning, I met with First Lady of Maryland Katie O'Malley at the Eastside District Court Building where she is an Associate Judge of the District Court of Baltimore City. She welcomed me into her chambers before her first docket, and was so charming. We had a great conversation.

She is a very down-to-earth person (she preferred I call her Katie), and knowledgeable about the issues of poverty, housing, and homelessness. She deals regularly with domestic violence in her courtroom.

She told me a bit about the shelter system in Maryland from her point of view and other related orgs that work on hunger and poverty. She and Judge Weinsten (who is a triathlete) were brainstorming with me on how to get better visibility for the ride.

It was fun putting our brains to work together, and I very much appreciate her attitude and her embrace. Being from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts where we have an absolutely extraordinary woman as First Lady, it’s nice to visit a state that is also that lucky.

P.S. By the way, my Trek and I may have been the first bicycle team inside the The Eastside District Courthouse. The building's security officers were particularly gracious.
