My only complaint is that the stores are not stocking the shelves fast enough with your goods.

Going, going, GONE!

Growing up in Boston, it would be hard to avoid the Red Sox (if for some strange reason you wanted to).  Fenway Park, Kenmore Square, the Green Monster, the Citgo sign…they’re all city landmarks.  For Father’s Day, we found a way to celebrate baseball-loving Dads, summer and the Sox with our Limited Edition Fenway Park Gift Tower.  The tower includes a Fenway Park replica tin filled with yummy, vanilla shortbread cookies that are shaped like baseballs!  They’re not regulation size baseballs, but they are tasty (IR)regardless.

Once we featured Fenway, we couldn’t help but feature Yankee Stadium for our New York, New Jersey and (select) Connecticut residents.  You will never find me rooting for the Bronx Bombers, but baseball season would definitely lose most of its excitement without those anticipated Sox/Yankees games.

And if you find yourself on neither side of the rivalry, but still love our national pastime, celebrate with the Baseball National Hall of Fame Gift Tower.  Each tower includes traditional, gourmet vanilla baseball cookies and chocolate chunk brownies – you really can’t miss with that combination.

Peanuts and Cracker Jacks are great, but why not do something different for Dad this baseball season?  Check out all three baseball gift towers on our website: http://www.dancingdeer.com/baseball-gifts.

At Dancing Deer, we love our holidays.  We get to bake decorative cookies for the season and we always make time for a celebration in the bakery with all the Deer.  St Patrick’s Day is next on the calendar – and you know what they say, “Everyone’s Irish on St Patrick’s Day!”  So, send some Lucky Clover Cookies to all of your IRISH friends and if you enjoy arts and crafts, click here to learn how to make an Origami 4-leaf clover (don’t worry, I tried it myself to rate the difficulty – I give it a rating of easy to medium difficulty level)

A Different League

Posted by Julie on 02/19 | Permalink | Email This

Next week, I will continue to watch the best athletes in the world compete in a variety of competitions.  As I watched each competition this past week, I marveled at how the new athletes continue to raise the bar and level of competition over previous world records and often, their own personal accomplishments.  I am amazed because daily, they achieve athletic feats that I could only dream of, but even the commentators – many of whom have medaled in that same sport – remark that the top competitors this Olympics are just in a different league.  Shaun White soared 25 feet in the air above the Snowboarder’s halfpipe (it looked more like 40 feet!)…Lindsey Vonn won gold in downhill skiing after bruising her shin weeks ago…figure skater Evan Lysacek’s free skate was considered by judges to be “technically perfect”...

Since all of us Deer are amazed by the Olympic athletes, we decided to celebrate Team USA Spirit with our Olympic giveaway.  Any Deer fan that orders over $34.95 will receive a FREE gift of PATRIOTIC STAR COOKIES ($33.90 value), which includes over two dozen star-shaped vanilla shortbread cookies in a wooden Shaker gift box. Shop now at http://www.dancingdeer.com and remember to use code “OLYMPICS” at checkout.

OH and don’t forget to root for Team USA!!

Roses are Red
Violets are Blue
Our cookies are too good to be true!

I started working here at Dancing Deer in November as a customer service representative (who happens to like blogging). Since November, I have tried to find a better cookie or brownie - to no avail. I have had cookies from all over the world and to this date Dancing Deer has won that spot in my heart for sweets. The brownies are gooey like they just came out of the oven; the cookies are chewy like a cookie should be. I truly love our cookies and I don’t know how most people share them because I don’t or won’t.

Move over roses, you’ve been replaced with our decadent Valentine’s Brownie & Cookie Tower. Our tower is the perfect gift for kids away at college, or friends and of course that special someone to show them you care. It showcases our chewy yummy cookies with our perfect gooey brownies and our perfect crisp shortbread cookies. Bon Apetit!

Nothing says “True Love” like Brownies

…. Or at least that’s what I hear. I love giving brownies to loved ones. First off - our Brownie Hearts are the size of my head and nothing says love like a brownie the size of a 1st grader, right? Right. Oh, and by the way my head is quite large, but more so I was going for the effect.

So now’s the time to get your list together for Valentines Day, show the people closest and furthest away that you care with Dancing Deer’s gourmet gifts. So here it is - we have hand-decorated L-O-V-E Letter Cookies for the special someone (me or significant other), humongous brownies for your kids & delightfully crunchy vanilla butter shortbread hearts for your friends to let them know your love is like a dancing deer cookie, you don’t want to share it’s soooo good.

So, friends, call us up and send some lovin!

The Gift of Autumn

Posted by Julie on 10/29 | Permalink | Email This

When fall leaves turn, the air takes on a distinctly dry, crisp character, Mother Nature has given the gift of autumn. It is no simple gift – it’s one of nostalgia and joy, wrapped like a gift, waiting to be experienced with the twinkling of an eye.

There is nostalgia for first days of school and their limitless possibility. For the fun it was to wear the Best Halloween Costume Ever! For the town you lived in when you first tasted pumpkin ale. And there’s the joy of walking down the sidewalk, intentionally stepping on leaves to hear the satisfying, distinct crunch.

We listened to Deers on Twitter sharing their autumn experiences. Here is what we heard:

@durhamtownship : Lastest blog post - American Beech tree in autumn colors
@craftycrafty : Some great autumn-themed projects and inspiration on the site today.
@Tossey : Autumn sunrise Morning commute No better way to start a work week - colors are gorgeous!

Here are a few of our ideas for giving the gift of autumn:

• Rake leaves for a neighbor who may not be so able anymore.

• Make a new hot drink every day of the week for you and your friends or family to enjoy after work or after dinner. (Have you ever made authentic Indian chai from scratch?)

• Donate old winter coats. When the temperatures change is when coats are in the highest demand for those in need. As an added bonus, you keep them out of the landfill.

This fall, go leaf-peeping … Dancing Deer style! Try our rich autumn-colored Maple Leaves & Gingerbread Acorns as a gift for someone special or a special treat for yourself.

Cookies, Brownies & Dream Symbols

Posted by Tara on 04/26 | Permalink | Email This

I found this cool site called The Curious Dreamer where you can search for the hidden meaning of any dream symbol. First on my list… cookies!

Cookies Eating cookies can mean you feel like treating yourself, or perhaps you're embracing your inner child.

..I had a feeling that cookies were the true fountain of youth. Next up, my favorite treat, brownies.

Brownie (chocolate dessert) A brownie can symbolize a "denseness of sweet emotion,"

..Aerosmith must love brownies.

“All this in a box of cookies!!!”

This just in from a new Deer fan in Georgia.  Thank you, doctor, for celebrating motherhood…

This is the first time I have ever heard of Dancing Deer Baking Co. I had delivered these two beautiful babies (twins—a girl and a boy!). Their mom and dad sent a lovely thank you package from you. It was so good, I looked you up on the web and here I am telling you that this was just a small reminder of why I do what I do. I love my patients and I love being in their lives and being a part of such an important part time of their life. I enjoy seeing the daddy’s face as he sees his baby for the first time and getting to hold his baby. I love getting to know my mommies and helping them through the marathon of birth. Not only obstetrics, but in gynecology, I have the privelege of being with women (and girls) of all ages and developing lifelong relationships. All this in a box of cookies!!! Thanks!

The Molasses Clove Cookie Story

Posted by Scott on 04/14 | Permalink | Email This

This cookie is the core of our wonderful family of baked goods. It was the first (of many) of our cakes and cookies to be honored with the food industry’s equivalent of the Oscars in 1998. More importantly, it seems to be a nearly universally loved cookie, even from folks who swear they don’t care for molasses or clove. It all started with a bakery buyer for what was then Bread & Circus, a New England retail chain and pioneer in the natural foods movement. She requested that we make a homey, seasonal cookie for the December holidays in 1996. We thought it would be good for a month. We were very wrong. It turned into a whole company! But we were really right about something else. In the early days (when we occupied a former pizza parlor with a couple convection ovens) we used to say, “Don’t bake mad it will ruin the cake!” Truly. We translated the inverse of this thought into our whole operating philosophy.

When people are happy it shows in the food.

Love in a Lunch Box

I learned about the golden rule from two extraordinary entrepreneurs - my parents. They never used the words social responsibility or philanthropy nor did we have any money.  But every day they made the world a better place through positive and generous interactions with other people and the planet.  And every day I also took for granted that the somewhat smushed peanut butter and jelly sandwich, apple and homemade cookie in my lunch bag was a symbol of my Mom’s great big heart. They didn’t make a big deal about it, it was just normal for them to try to make something right, stretch out a hand or invent something which ought to be.  Among the things they managed to create was a whole industry for recycling post-consumer bottles and cans on an industrial basis.

There is a very long list of the many lovely ways (big and small) that they put their good energies to work. Their legacy and the daily compromises I make as a single working Mom, motivate me to do something bigger than turn a profit. We pack a little love and a little philosophy in to everything we do. It’s in our green packaging and in our Sweet Home Project to help homeless mothers.  It’s in the importance we place on dressing up in silly hats to celebrate everyone’s birthday and in finding the bits of fun which are just about everywhere if you’re determined to find them. It’s for lunch every day!

My real agenda is to use cookies to make positive change in the world.  The more I see of life the more convinced I am that spreading sweetness is a really big and very sophisticated idea, hokey and gee whiz as it may sound, and as important in business as in one’s personal life. The same values apply whether I’m doing something with my kids or my co-workers.  For me business is personal and love can be packed in a brown bag lunch or a trailer load of cookies.
